On Friday, January 16, at 8:00 p.m, a report of the World Parliament of the Peoples for Peace will be given by Anna Fritz, social worker, teacher at CWRU SASS. Chair of the National Peace Committee of NASW, and by Akida Sababu, labor organizer of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association and Chairman of the Cleveland Branch of the National Alliance Against Racism and Political Opression. Cleveland Heights-University Heights Main Library, 2345 Lee Road. Both women were delegates to the Parliament held in September 1980 in Sophia, Bulgaria, where 2.260 participants representing 137 countries gathered to share their concerns and ideas for world peace.

Women Together has started a Battered Women's Supper Group which it is hoped will grow into support groups for women who are still living in a battering situation as well as providing continuing support for those who have begun to rebuild their lives. More information is available from Ann Hunter, Program Manager, at 431-6267. Here is an opportunity for volunteers as well.

The Volunteer Projects component of Women Together Inc. is conducting an on-going volunteer recruitment campaign to better serve battered women. Women Together needs volunteers in the areas of childcare. crisis-line phone service, support group facilitation, direct service counseling, and public speaking. Requirements are that volunteers be sensitive to the needs of women, particularly battered women. Experience is helpful, but not mandatory. We offer training in each area of service. Interested volunteers may call Fay Grinage at Women Together. 431-6267. Office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you are a woman with a problem and don't know where to turn, WomenSpace's Help Line, 696-3100, may be able to put you in touch with helpful community resources. The Help Line's hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday. Women who call for assistance are provided with information and referrals by a staff of trained women specialists who can assess the caller's needs and refer her to vocational/career resources, social service agencies, physicians, therapists, attorneys and self-help groups. The staff regularly researches and updates a resource bank to insure that current information is available.

Sponsors for approximately 600 lesbian and gay Cuban refugees are still needed, the National Gay Task Force and the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches said today. While thousands of lesbian and gay Cubans have already been placed in sponsors' homes, more remain at the Resettlement Camp at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Continued support is needed for those refugees already placed including jobs, clothing, money and legal services. "What could they possibly do this year?" That will certainly be a question running through the minds of the women attending Oven Produclions' 5th Annual Variety Show February 14, 1981. In past years this fun-filled evening has begun with women careening down aisles on roller skates, leaping and pirouetting onto the stage, and similar antics. Following the gala opening number comes a variety of fine entertainment by both the old familiar talent and the new-music, singing, comedy, dance, theater and poetry.
